Tricyrtis 'Tojen'
Look forward to a late summer show of intriguing blooms appearing in the shady areas of your garden, courtesy of Tricyrtis 'Tojen'. Also known as Japanese toad lily, like a toad it prefers to dwell in cool, damp areas. Unlike most toads, it is incredibly exotic looking, producing pastel mauve blooms with a really interesting formation. The leaves are lush and grow on tall, upright stems during summer. Towards the end of the summer season, keep an eye out for the lily-like flowers which appear at the top of each stem. Their delicate details are well worth a close look.   Â
Tricyrtis 'Tojen' is perfect for planting in a shady or partially shady area which has rich, damp soil. Whilst they are subtle from afar, they do a great job in filling what could otherwise be a tricky planting area with fresh-looking summer foliage and a special feature of late summer blooms. The hardy perennial Tricyrtis hirta 'Tojen' tolerates winter temperatures below -10°C. And, when it's happy in its spot, it will return each year, gradually establishing into good clump.
