Rudbeckia 'Herbstsonne'

Want some bright, cheery colour in the garden at the end of the growing season, when most other summer plants have gone over? If so, then you would be hard-pressed to find anything more vibrant and impactful than Rudbeckia 'Herbstsonne'. This tough, durable, hardy herbaceous perennial, produces branched stems that carry heads of citrus-yellow daisy flowers in late summer and into autumn. Each bloom has a greenish-yellow centre. With its tall, slender stems, when this plant is fully mature, Rudbeckia 'Herbstonne' can reach 200cm in height.

Rudbeckia 'Herbstsonne' is ideal for growing towards the back of a mixed herbaceous border, but it also works well in prairie-style planting schemes. Like all coneflowers, Rudbeckia laciniata 'Herbstsonne' does particularly well in a sheltered, sunny spot, on a moist but well-drained soil. In fact, it is so highly regarded that the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has awarded it the coveted Award of Garden Merit. Even better, after a few years you can increase your stock of this plant by dividing it, in spring or autumn. Lastly, it also makes an excellent cut flower.
