Nerine 'Flügel'
The Nerine, or Guernsey lily, performs the grand finale of the flower bulb flowering season. There are few garden plants that offer as much drama and colour during autumn. And Nerine 'Flügel' is one of the best. A newly introduced variety, its flowers are a rich pink – and arguably the brightest pink of any. And before the buds fully open, they are of a deep red shade, which give the flowerheads a beautiful two-tone effect. The flowerheads are held on rigid stems of bright green. This variety has been selected by its breeders as having exceptional colour, a most attractive shape, and excellent garden qualities. Nerine bowdenii 'Flügel' is also hugely popular in the floristry trade as a superior cut flower – so do not miss your opportunity to cut a few blooms for long-lasting indoor vase decoration!
Grow several nerine varieties in different shades, and they will fill your autumn garden with a glittering haze of pinks, reds and whites. Delightful loose, open flowers dance happily though the autumn breezes, on slender stems (which, in some varieties, are tinted with shades of maroon and purple). And when sunshine falls on the flowers, the petals look as though they are covered with a thin layer of silver dust.
Gracy knows"Nerine bowdenii plants do best if grown in clumps and it may take a couple of seasons to really develop and start blooming profusely. It’s worth the wait!"
