Ipheion 'Wisley Blue'
With the common name of spring starflower, we don’t really need to tell you much more—except that Ipheion 'Wisley Blue' is stunningly beautiful! Violet blue star-shaped flowers are produced over several weeks in spring, and each petal has a darker stripe through the middle. The flowers have a light but sweet perfume, too. Ipheion 'Wisley Blue' is reliable and easy to grow in a sheltered spot—it really is the perfect plant for garden beds, borders, pathways and pots.
Try it also in generous swathes across the garden—and it’s a natural for gravel gardens or rockeries and alpine beds. Crush the open clumps of green, strap-shaped foliage and it will give the feint aroma of garlic—well, ipheion is a member of the onion and garlic family!
This is a stand-out bulb, perfect for the front of the border where it will happily naturalise. Don’t just take our word for it: Ipheion uniflorum 'Wisley Blue' has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding qualities. Better still, if you live in a rural location, this ipheion seems to be left alone by animal pests such as deer and rabbits!
