Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine'
If you are looking for some bright, cheery autumn floral colour, then you have found it! Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine' is a wonderful hardy perennial that produces beautiful whitish leaves. What sets them apart from all others are the gorgeous dark green veins running through them. Then there are the large daisy-like flowers—some people think of them as mini-sunflowers, hence the common name false sunflower. Held on strong, stiff stems (which do not need staking), they are pure golden yellow, up to 8cm wide. At peak times, these blooms cover the plants. Stems grow to a height of 75-100cm.
Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine' will flower from early summer, right up until the first frosts of late autumn. It is perfect for prairie style plantings, especially when combined with grasses and their closely-related cousins, the echinaceas. The blooms of Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine' are great for cutting, too. Although suitable for large patio pots, these plants will be most at home planted in a sunny garden border.
Even better, Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine' may be divided every three or four years. This not only revitalises the plant, but gives you more specimens to plant elsewhere in the garden – or give away to friends!
