Echinacea 'Magnus'
Warm, sumptuous, velvety—this perennial coneflower produces glorious reddish-pink daisy blooms, around 10cm across. The petals of this Echinacea 'Magnus' are more horizontal (that is, they do not droop) than the straight Echinacea purpurea, which sets it apart and, in our view, gives it the edge! This habit also makes the flowers appear larger. In the centre of each bloom is a luxuriant, prominent, orange-brown cone. The newest blooms are more intense in colour; petals lighten to a pale rose-pink as they age, and this leads to a gorgeous bicoloured effect. Flowers appear over a long season, starting in mid-summer, and lasting right into autumn. Â
Reaching around 100cm in height, rigid stems carry attractively narrow, oval, rich green leaves. Echinacea 'Magnus' copes well with wind and rain. For best results, grow it in a sunny spot (however, it does perform very well in part-shade, too). It also likes a moist but well-drained soil. Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' is well suited to growing in a mixed perennial border or prairie-style planting scheme. Finally, the blooms will be loved by bees and butterflies.Â
